Textile Import Duty in Pakistan 

The textile industry plays a crucial in Pakistan’s economy. Currently, it accounts for 46% of the total manufacturing sector in the country. The industry’s dominance also extends in the region where Pakistan is now the 8th largest exporter of fabrics in Asia. 

The success and significance of the textile to the people of Pakistan create the need to import fabrics to ensure an adequate supply of materials. This, in turn, ensures the continuous production of textiles products for export to North America and Europe, among other continents.

 Therefore, as textile companies based in China, there are market opportunities for your products in Pakistan, including but not limited to raw materials. 

However, for smooth business transactions, you should familiarize yourself with the import duty charged for the various categories of fabrics. We have selected some of the common textile goods allowed into Pakistan and their respective custom duty.

Fabric Tariff Duty for Selected Goods 

Pakistan has some of the highest import duty rates for textile products, as revealed by the country’s Federal Board of Revenue. The high tariffs can be linked to the availability of artificial and natural raw materials in the country, although it is never enough.  

In this section, we have picked customs tariff rates for select textile products obtained from silk, cotton, wool and animal hair, nylon, and polyester.  

Silk Fabric Tariffs

Including silk-worm cocoons suitable for reeling to fabrics containing 85 % or more by weight of silk or of silk waste other than noil silk, the tariffs range from 5%-15%. The only exception here is yarn spun from silk waste, not put up for retail sale, there’s 0 import duty.

Cotton Fabric Tariffs

There’s 0 import duty on cotton (not carded or combed), including American, Egyptian, other tariffs. From Cotton waste to Woven fabrics of cotton, containing less than 85 % by weight of cotton, mixed mainly or solely with man-made fibres, weighing more or not more than 200 g/m2, tariffs range from 5% to 25%. The Takeaway 

Pakistan has a large supply of natural and man-made raw materials used in the textile industry. However, the country still needs to import more to meet the high demand for its products in the international market.
