What Is Jacquard Fabric?

Jacquard is a fabric construction in which the pattern is woven or knitted directly into the material rather than printed onto its surface. “Jacquard” therefore describes a method of fabric formation, not a single fiber or composition.

Jacquard fabrics can be produced from cotton, wool, linen, silk, viscose, polyester, nylon and blended yarns. Depending on the yarn, construction and finishing process, the resulting material may be lightweight and fluid, dense and structured, smooth and lustrous, or textured with a pronounced three-dimensional surface.
