Custom Made Faux Suede Fabric in Bulk at Wholesale Price from Manufacturers

Custom-Made Faux Suede Fabric in Bulk at Wholesale Prices

FabricsTrades supplies soft, matte faux suede fabric for fashion, footwear, accessories, upholstery and interior applications. Our core faux suede range uses fine polyester microfiber to reproduce the short nap, visual depth and tactile surface of genuine suede in a flexible, cost-effective textile.

Depending on the intended application, we can source polyester, recycled polyester, nylon, rayon and cotton-containing constructions, with options for customized color, weight, width, handfeel, backing, stretch and surface finishing.

Located in Wujiang District, Suzhou, we operate at the center of one of the world’s most concentrated textile manufacturing hubs. We are not limited to the capabilities of a single production line. In addition to our own four-way stretch fabric manufacturing experience, we work closely with specialized weaving, knitting, dyeing, brushing, coating and lamination facilities.

If the faux suede construction you need already exists, we can help you find it. If it does not, we can help develop it around your reference swatch, technical specifications and target application.

Wholesale Faux Suede Fabric

Faux suede is commonly made from fine polyester microfiber that is woven or knitted and then finished to create a soft, closely raised surface. The resulting fabric is thin, flexible and tough, with a matte appearance and suede-like touch.

China is one of the world’s largest producers of polyester fibers and faux suede fabrics. Other established production markets include Taiwan, Korea, India, Japan and Indonesia.

What Is Faux Suede Fabric?

Genuine suede is leather made from the underside of animal hide. Lambskin is commonly used, although suede may also be produced from sheepskin, cowhide and pigskin.

Faux suede is an artificial textile designed to imitate the short nap, muted luster and soft hand of genuine suede. Polyester microfiber is its most common raw material, although nylon, rayon and cotton-containing constructions may also be available.

For brands seeking an animal-free alternative, faux suede delivers a similar visual effect without using animal hide. It is generally more affordable and can provide more consistent color, width and surface appearance across bulk production.

Faux suede should still be selected according to its intended application. Apparel, footwear, bags, upholstery and automotive interiors require different constructions, backings and performance tests.

Règlement sur les tissus 2024-2026 & Mise à jour de conformité

Restriction UE REACH PFHxA

Faux suede used in clothing, accessories, footwear and other consumer textiles may be affected when water-, oil- or stain-repellent treatments introduce PFHxA, its salts or PFHxA-related substances.

The restriction entered into force on October 10, 2024. It applies to clothing, related accessories and footwear for the general public from October 10, 2026. Other textiles intended for the general public follow from October 10, 2027.

The specified limits are:

  • 25 ppb pour la somme du PFHxA et de ses sels
  • 1 000 ppb pour la somme des substances liées au PFHxA

These limits apply to homogeneous material. Buyers should therefore assess the complete finished construction, including the faux suede face, backing, coating, adhesive, membrane and repellent finish.

A “PFC-free” or “fluorine-free” supplier declaration should not automatically be treated as complete compliance evidence. Buyers should define the applicable test method and obtain reports that correspond to the actual finished material and production lot.

ESPR and Digital Product Passport readiness

The EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation entered into force on July 18, 2024. Textiles and apparel are included in the first 2025–2030 ESPR Working Plan, while detailed product-specific requirements continue to be developed.

Faux suede suppliers and buyers should begin organizing verifiable information covering:

  • Composition des fibres
  • Recycled content where claimed
  • Substances of concern
  • Yarn and fabric origin
  • Procédés de teinture et de finition
  • Coatings, adhesives and backing materials
  • Product and process traceability
  • Supporting conformity documentation

Traceability is particularly important for bonded or laminated faux suede because the visible microfiber face may represent only one component of the finished material.

Physical Properties of Faux Suede Fabric

Soft, short-nap surface

Fine fibers create the characteristic soft, suede-like hand. Brushing the nap in different directions can produce visible shade movement, which should be considered during cutting and sewing.

Matte appearance

Faux suede has a subdued finish that gives garments, accessories and interiors a refined leather-inspired look without the high shine associated with many coated synthetic leathers.

Thin but tough construction

Polyester microfiber faux suede can be relatively thin and lightweight while still providing good strength for fashion, accessory and decorative applications.

Water and stain resistance

The fabric can resist water and staining, although its actual performance depends on the construction and finishing treatment. Buyers should define measurable performance requirements rather than assume every faux suede quality is waterproof or stain-proof.

Affordable pricing

Faux suede provides a cost-effective alternative to genuine suede, particularly for products requiring consistent color, repeatable specifications and bulk production.

Care-dependent durability

Faux suede is not as durable as genuine suede. Suitable cleaning, storage and maintenance are necessary to preserve its nap, color and surface appearance. Before approving bulk production, buyers should specify:
  • Composition des fibres
  • Poids du tissu et largeur utile
  • Norme de couleur
  • Nap direction and surface density
  • Résistance à l'abrasion
  • Pilling performance
  • Dry and wet rubbing colorfastness
  • Lightfastness
  • Stabilité dimensionnelle
  • Performance des coutures
  • Backing, coating or lamination
  • Étirement et récupération
  • Water- or stain-resistance requirements
  • Applicable restricted-substance and flammability standards

How Faux Suede Fabric Is Made

Faux suede is typically produced from synthetic fibers such as polyester, nylon or rayon. These fibers are converted into a woven or knitted base fabric and processed to develop the characteristic short pile. Depending on the required appearance and performance, manufacturing may include:
  • Fiber splitting or raising
  • Sanding or emerizing
  • Dyeing and color matching
  • Mechanical brushing
  • Heat setting
  • Embossing or printing
  • Back coating
  • Foam bonding
  • Membrane or backing lamination
The production route determines the finished fabric’s thickness, drape, stretch, nap density, dimensional stability and directional shading. Buyers should identify every component in the finished construction. Back coatings, adhesives, foam, membranes and interlinings can influence handfeel, recyclability, labeling and restricted-substance compliance, even when the visible surface is simply described as faux suede.

Environmental Impact and Responsible Sourcing

Faux suede is an animal-free alternative to genuine suede and leather. Its production can avoid some of the water, energy and preservation chemistry associated with processing animal hides. Consistent width and surface quality may also improve cutting efficiency in scaled manufacturing. However, synthetic faux suede is not automatically sustainable. Virgin polyester and nylon are generally produced from petrochemical feedstocks, while dyeing, brushing, coating and lamination consume energy and may generate emissions or waste. Microfiber constructions also require attention to fiber shedding. The term “vegan” describes the absence of animal-derived material; it does not, by itself, prove lower environmental impact. More responsible sourcing options may include:
  • Recycled-polyester constructions
  • Verified recycled-content documentation
  • Efficient dyeing processes
  • Reduced-water or waterless dyeing where technically available
  • Durable constructions designed for longer use
  • Controlled chemical inputs
  • Simplified mono-material structures
  • Traceable yarn, fabric and finishing records
Environmental or recycled-content claims should always be supported by documentation for the specific product and supply chain.

How to Care for Faux Suede Fabric

  1. Follow the finished product’s care label. Backings, adhesives and trims may require stricter care than the faux suede face.
  2. Avoid unnecessary soaking. If the fabric becomes wet, gently blot excess moisture with a clean cloth and allow it to air-dry away from direct heat.
  3. Brush the surface gently with a soft-bristled brush. Work in a consistent direction to lift the nap and remove loose dust.
  4. Blot stains instead of rubbing them. Aggressive scrubbing can flatten or damage the surface.
  5. Test mild detergent or fabric cleaner on an inconspicuous area before cleaning the main surface.
  6. Avoid saturating laminated or coated constructions because excess moisture may affect the backing or adhesive.
  7. Use protectant sprays only after confirming compatibility with the fabric and the chemical requirements of the destination market.
  8. Store garments on suitable hangers. Keep fabric and finished products flat or rolled where possible to prevent persistent creases and pressure marks.

Foire aux questions

Is faux suede real leather?

No. Faux suede is an artificial textile engineered to imitate the soft nap and matte appearance of genuine suede. Polyester microfiber is its most common raw material, although nylon, rayon and cotton-containing constructions may also be available.

Is faux suede vegan?

The faux suede textile face is designed as an animal-free alternative to suede leather. However, brands making vegan claims should check the complete bill of materials. Adhesives, coatings, trims and labels may require separate supplier declarations.

What information should I provide for a wholesale quotation?

Can FabricsTrades source recycled faux suede?

Yes, recycled-polyester options can be sourced. Buyers should specify the required recycled-content percentage and any certification or chain-of-custody requirements before sampling.

Is faux suede waterproof and stain-proof?

Faux suede may provide resistance to water and staining, but not every construction is waterproof or stain-proof. Performance depends on the fabric density, backing and finishing treatment. Buyers should define a test method and target result for the finished fabric. Water- or stain-repellent treatments should also be reviewed for PFAS compliance in the destination market.

What tests are recommended for faux suede?

Testing should reflect the final application. Common requirements include:
